Sunflower Scrap Done!

I purchased the only tube of blue beads that were the right shade and size. I hesitated with the purchase knowing that if I ran out of beads before I was done I was sunk. I decided to risk it.

The beads are on

and here is what I have left in the tube.

Lucky me! You can read about the whole process of creating this quilt here and here.

O Franki ! This looks so good. I envy you your machine stitching skills. Will there be more sunflowers along the way?

  2. beads are perfect addition. I love creating sunflowers. There are volunteers all over my yard from planting in one section 2 years ago… They make me smile. Beautiful.

Thank you Ashley, and thank you for stopping by. I hope to see you again soon. BTW, I think Frank Clark has it “just right” about criticism. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Love it! You’re a great shopper! I always have too many or too few, never just right.
Have you been hanging out with Baby Bear?!! :)

    • Franki Kohler says:

I was thinking of the Baby Bear analogy as I began my 3rd iteration of this piece Suzanne. And now I do feel that I got it “just right.”

Thank you Sara! So nice to hear from you. I appreciate reading other blogs that walk me through process issues. It’s very helpful. It also makes me feel as though I really get to know the artist. Thanks for coming along on the ride.

  6. Beautiful. Sunflowers are my favorite. Love the composition, your quilting, and the beads.

  7. Love the beads. Love the quilting! Think the change in fabric was the right decision. You rock!

    • Franki Kohler says:

Karen, thanks — especially for the support on the fabric. I’m going to experiment with even lighter colors next. I see great potential for fun with this technique.

Franki, you have done it again! This is lovely, beautifully laid out, and exquisitely stitched and beads give it the ‘necessary’ heft. Love it Jen

  9. Franki Kohler says:

Thank you Jennifer! Half-way through beading I was getting those second thoughts that happen so often. But I think the size I chose is right for this large-seeded flower.

  10. Franki – I love this piece. The beads and quilting both make it sing Summertime! Good job. – Denise

  11. Beautiful work! I love its power of simplicity!
