Sunflower Scrap IV

I’m making progress on the 4th sunflower art quilt in a series. The background fabric is a beige upholstery cotton left over from a window seat project. The weight of this fabric will enable me to quilt with fewer stops to block during the process. This sunflower is the largest one yet, so it dominates the design.

It’s not often that I take quilting out but that’s what I did yesterday. The top edge had more quilting that just didn’t work for me.

The blue marking lines define the 12″ finished size. I’m going to leave this sunflower piece on my design wall and begin the thread work on another project while I think about how to proceed with the quilting. Goals to consider: use several designs with varied sizes, use a thread color to match the background fabric, incorporate beads.

See the first three in this series here.
