I was in Boulder City, Nevada this past week visiting my sister and brother-in-law. Boulder City is proud to be known as the city that built Hoover Dam. It’s a charming small town and it’s within a few miles of Las Vegas.
We attended two concerts in old town Las Vegas at the brand new Smith Center for the Performing Arts — a wonderful venue. Across the street from the Center is a stunning park which features an installation of art created specifically for the third annual Las Vegas Honors St. Jude: An Affair of the Art to support the efforts of the Las Vegas Chapter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the fight against childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. The art is three-dimensional, five-foot tall heart statues, each custom created by a collaboration of two professional local artists — a sculptor artist and a creative artist. The artists give each heart “life” through their vision and interpretation of what a heart or life for a child means to them.
Here are a few of the hearts that captured me.
And the other side.
And the other side.
The statement for the above heart:
And the opposite side:
There are more hearts throughout Las Vegas. If you’re headed that way, it’s worth seeking them out.

Are the hearts on permanent display Franki, or only during the festival? They are great!

I’m not sure how long the hearts will be on public view. Check out the site that I linked, maybe you can find more information than I did.

these are so cool! what a neat way to bring awareness. THey did this with decorated cows in Austin/San Antonio a few years ago… I loved living vicariously with you and Aunt Christy! I’ll keep an eye out for the traveling hearts.

Many cities have done this kind of fund raising. It’s very cool. The hearts are not traveling though. They’ll be staying in Las Vegas. You know what they say about Las Vegas! 🙂

I wish we could have gotten a picture of the heart that showed lots of patching. Marshall wouldn’t oblige us and the area was being used by a group having publicity photos made. What a great time we had with you, Franki.

Those are amazing. What luck to be in the city to view them.. I have tried to get our locals to sponcer Bears walking up Highway 41 to Yosmite,, and have artists paint them or mosaic.. But we don’t have any businesses with monies right now that feel they can participate. The base, like the Angels that were done on one city used to cost about $1,500 a piece, and then there is the upkeep.. Such a good cause, Thank you for sharing photos!
