I recently had an opportunity to trade a fabric postcard with a group who was participating in an online seminar through Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). Names were drawn and people were paired for the trade. I had the good fortune to be paired with Samantha Boot, a fiber artist from the UK whose work I admire a great deal. Here is the fabric postcard I received from her. Click on the image for a larger view.
Like me, Samantha is keenly interested in using natural resources to dye her fabrics. The fabric fragments she used to create Hidden Paths were dyed with Cowparsley (yellow), Yarrow (green), Blackthorn (orange), and Hawthorn with iron (grey). Simple hand stitching brings the design together. Samantha shares her work on her blog (see link above) which she calls Threads of My Life.
I sent Samantha one of my gold ginkgo fabric postcards.
If you are new here you may not know that I traded fabric postcards for 10 years with a group that I founded in 2005. To learn more about that, click on the Fiber Postcards category to the right and the Book and Fabric Postcards page above.
Doing this trade with Samantha made me want to create a few more postcards. They are a lot of fun to create, especially since their petite size means a quick completion. Most satisfying! So. Into the studio I went and pulled out a pair of jeans that were just added to my stash. Then I went through a bag of clothing labels. In no time I had a nice layout:
A bit of stitching, fusing and painting, and viola! I call this postcard At Home in Jeans.
What are you doing just for the fun of it?

Getting inspiration from other artists. Good work; carry on.

Yes, it’s great that art inspires more art. It was really fun to have that zing of inspiration and actually follow through on it!

My favorite fabric postcard from you is a dove of peace that perches in my tree every Christmas. The fun one- at home in jeans- is so adorable! Id love to frame that in my home xoxo

Awww, I’m so glad you continue to enjoy the Christmas card! We can work out an arrangement for the Jeans postcard!
