I always feel that having my work accepted for a juried and judged exhibit is reward enough. So I was excited when I learned that my two first-time entries for the La Conner Quilts & Textile Museum exhibit were accepted.
A few days ago I received emails informing me that both pieces were award winners! Award announcements were made at a banquet October 3rd. The list of winners was posted on the museum’s web site today.
Both quilts were entered into the Original Design Realistic Pictorial Wall Quilt category. Forget Me Not, Collaboration with Grandma received the 3rd Place award; (hover your cursor over images for more information)
Nature’s Fractal received an Honorable Mention award.
Nature’s Fractal also received an Award of Excellence, the Judge’s Choice award, from Kathie Kerler.
The Festival exhibit ends October 6th, however, all First Place and Award of Excellence winners will remain at the museum for a special exhibit through November 24. I won’t be able to see the exhibit myself so I hope that if you are in the area you’ll stop in and then drop me a note sharing your impressions of the museum and the exhibit.

Congratulations, Franki, though I have to say I am not at all surprised. Your work is so special and imaginative, and the artists who do this kind of thing know a great artist when they see one! Cheers J.

Thank you Dolores. These awards feel extra special since this is the first time I’ve entered the museum’s exhibit. I keep reminding myself that if I don’t play, I can’t win. . . just do it!

Congratulations, Franki. Both are very beautiful little quilts. Your work is always so perfectly executed. Bravo!
Franki Kohler says
That’s very kind of you Loretta. I have a quote from Aristotle in my studio: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” At the beginning of each project I consider what I want as a habit.

Woo Hoo! Congratulations, Franki. I know I’ve seen Forget Me Not in person, but the photograph really shows off the quilting on the top. I don’t remember it being that exotic.
