I was the lucky bidder on three foot-square art quilts during the SAQA Auction this year so I have to admit that I’m building a collection. Here is Spring Moons by Jeanne Marklin.
The colors and texture of this quilt are just plain yummy. And I love the fact that her signature in the bottom right corner is as bold as her design. There can be no mistake who created this lovely art quilt. She has also documented it nicely on the back.
How fun it was to see the sunflower print on the back! This is another color way of the same sunflower print that I have been using to create my Sunflower Scrap series.
Dove’s Paradise by Nneka Kusema Gamble almost vibrates, yet I find it quite peaceful.
While she didn’t sign the front of her art quilt, she has well documented it on the back.
And as a fellow art quilter, I especially appreciate that she documented both materials and technique here.
I shared the third quilt here.

Lovely! Now, how will you display them? I have my own burgeoning collection and I’m not sure how to display them. Currently they are lined up on my wall, help in place by pins-eek!

I hang these little treasures just like I hang my larger pieces: on a slat with eye screws on each end. I also make sure there’s a pleat in the sleeve so they hang ever-so-flat on the wall. You’ll see on the 30th!

I like the idea of signing the front of the quilt – like a painting! You see this on very old quilts sometimes, too … you have acquired some real treasures! =D

I think they’re real treasures too. I also like the idea of signing on the front — at least I like it when I see others doing it.
