We celebrated the first day of summer this week and this morning I picked our first ripe Early Girl tomatoes along with some basil. Can we say Caprese Salad?
The rhubarb is about to take over! It is growing in a 4-foot square raised box.
Too bad those enormous leaves aren’t edible!
The magnolia I have espaliered across the back fence treated us with new blooms this week. I’d say it’s officially summer.
I hope you are reaping the rewards of the season.

Did not know you could do that with Magnolia’s I thought they were always as trees… I am wondering what My tomatoes are doing… another 4 weeks and will be home… I need to ask the sitter how mine are doing, love your tomatoes and basil. Good part about being in a more moderate temp….

The magnolia we have is a dwarf variety but would still reach 25 feet easily. You can espalier any tree. Pruning is the key — from the beginning! Think of bonsai!

Another wonderful selection of photos, Franki. I bet some lucky friend is going to get a batch of them on note cards. Beautiful garden and gardening!

Thanks Christy! Soon you’ll enjoy some of those tomatoes.
