The quilting is done and here it is being blocked. The lighting and angle were not ideal for this photograph so it’s difficult to discern the checkerboard of light/dark thread used in the quilting.
A detail shot shows the thread change more clearly.
But then, I did say I wanted a subtle background. So this piece is successful. If I had wanted a more clear shift of color I could have more densely quilted with the darker thread, perhaps even using a different and/or smaller design. Note to self: Good idea for another project!
And here it is finished.
Titles for my work usually evolve as the art quilt evolves. Not so this time. My thinking on this one feels stuck in neutral. Suggestions are welcome.
This is lovely. Your choice for the background quilting works exceptionally well. Your precision too is exceptional. I haven’t a title suggestion though!
So beautiful and whimsical, Franki. Maybe something ‘cute’ is in order. Bubblegum in my hair???
or in the tree? Hmmm. . .
I love it. I like the way the squares just dance.
Well there you go: “Stuck in Neutral.” 😉
Love it. So crisp and clean, simple and elegant…very peaceful…a restful piece. 🙂
Oh dear, that would sound a bit confessional. Thank you for the kudos.
I like your piece, and especially how you have quilted it… Did you use reverse applique on the leaves and stem?
Thanks Vivian. No, not reverse applique. This is a layered technique that I used in the Broken Ginkgo’ series. Enter is as a search item to see how it’s done.
Hi Franki – saw this via Facebook and had to find out more! Love the way you’ve quilted it … Reminds me of pavements or paving. The tree reminds me if the countryside, so how about ‘Tree Change’ for a title? People in the city are often dreaming of being able to move to the country … =)
It’s beautiful, Franki! “It’s in the air”?
Hi Franki! The background reminds me of an evening sky. What about “Twilight Shadows”?
Thanks everyone for sharing your ideas about a title for this piece! I got another suggestion from a friend that I’ve decided to go with: “Branching Out.” Love the double meaning there.
It is beautiful. Love the quilting too and it is possible to see the difference between the light and dark thread squares.
Great piece!
If your art is still in Roseville in October, I will have to visit the gallery. You do beautiful work.
Thanks for the kudos! The Roseville exhibit ended in July. Some of my work will be at the La Conner Museum and IQF Houston in October. See the right column here for details.
Well phooey! I’m visiting the Sacramento area in October, but will drive to the Bay Area as well. Maybe you’ll get invited to an exhibit before then. I’m following you now so I’ll get to see your updates.
I love Wanda Brunstetter’s books and many of her characters quilt. I may take it up in a few years, but haven’t decided yet. I definitely wouldn’t be artistic, but at least I would be warm. 🙂
I will let you know the minute I have other venues where my work can be seen. Stay tuned.
Sounds like a plan. Thanks!
