Sometimes a redux is just the right thing. I created Ginkgos In the Round in October 2014. See my original posts here and here. After moving to Portland, I created a wall of foot-square art quilts in the dining room. This piece is one of the 18 pieces on the wall.

I must admit that when I created this piece I thought of beading it. But I talked myself out of it, thinking that the beads might be too much. As I have enjoyed viewing this piece for the last few years, I have often thought that it needed something more — like beads!
In April I joined some friends in Carmel, California, enjoying a good catch up, some walks, good food and great ocean views. I needed something that would travel easily and keep me busy for a few days. This project was perfect. It was fun to pack for this project: beads, needles, floss, all fit easily in my small handwork kit.

I pulled out my go-to collections of mixed beads and some turquoise beads and nuggets gathered while in Santa Fe for a conference some time ago. They were a splurge when I got them and I had no idea where they would end up but now I knew they were just the right thing. The hand-dyed fabric in this piece has purples, blues and turquoise in it.
Here’s a detail of the finished work:

And the full piece:

Initially conceived and stitched 2014; completed to satisfaction 2019. Sometimes it takes a while to get it right.
If you’ve been here for a while, you might remember Orange, created in 2011, which got the Redux treatment in 2014.
That looks great Franki!
Thank you Katherine. I am much happier with it now.
Love the 3 D look of your piece. I have a ginkgo tree in a pot. And love the leaves. I think I bought it because you have made such beautiful art with the leaves. I have yet to make anything with them.
Thank you Vivian. There is plenty of time for you to experiment with the leaves. They are so beautiful.
Nice! The beads do make a difference!
Thanks Gay. I’m much happier with it.
Yes!!! Love the circle of beads on this one, Franki.
Thanks so much Sherry! Better late than never, huh?
