Earlier this month we made a trip to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I’ve wanted to revisit since learning about the seahorse exhibit. The exhibit has been there for many years already…but you know how that happens.
I was tickled by the Potbelly seahorse. Apparently, a big belly is better for attracting females, so the males will pump their pouches full of water in an effort to be the most attractive guy around.
This all makes perfect sense when you learn that the male is the one to carry the little babies around until they are ready to go off on their own.
But these are the ones that captured me completely — the Leafy Sea Dragon seahorse.
And now I’m sure they’ve captured you!
The aquarium is an amazing adventure and learning experience. We are so lucky to have access to it.

Another two photos that will inspire lots of memories, ideas, thoughts of ambiance, oh my. Thanks for sharing!

And now for the serendipity: The first pattern I looked at this morning is a knitted scarf that takes its inspiration from a sea slug. Or maybe a leafy sea dragon!!! Can’t wait to try the technique offered and to keep the sea dragon in mind while enjoying knitting.

Beautiful and a little strange, those leafy ones!

I fell in love with the leafy sea dragons years ago at an aquarium in Florida and am just counting the days until I can get to Monterey. Thanks for the pictures that will have to hold me till I’m there in person.

You are so welcome Joyce. I’ll be heading back there again before too long myself. I stood watching these incredible seahorses for a long time. Even inches from them they don’t look real! They are magic.
