My sister and brother-in-law, Christy and Marshall, were visiting from Boulder City, NV last week. During their visit we took a road trip to visit a winery they particularly enjoy — Van Ruiten Winery is in Lodi, about 1 1/2 hours from the Bay Area. Our mild winter weather made the trip easy and very enjoyable. We found wines we couldn’t resist, then stopped for lunch at another winery just up the road. Their cafe was buzzing and full; the food was generous and good. Here we are sharing a laugh.
After lunch we drove to their son’s home to visit and give the rocker that Marshall built to their 6-month-old grandson, Oliver. Everything was dandy until dad decided that Oliver would like a ride. I snapped this picture just before the protest ensued.
Oh well . . . he’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the goat rocker later.
We visited with some of the animals out back. Their chickens are simply beautiful. Here are just a few of them.
They are taking care of a neighbor’s turkey. I had no idea that a turkey’s head turns blue when they are upset. This guy was in a new yard with a lot of strangers snapping photos so he had plenty to be upset about.
I always learn something new when I visit Ron and Meli.

Van Ruiten, could be a Dutch name. Sounds like you had a fun time!
