I’m having a lot of fun creating a bouquet of sunflower scrap pieces. Here is the second piece well under way.
I chose to use a square scrap for this one. Yes, those are a lot of pins. After stitching the pedals and seeds I was concerned about distortion so I blocked it. I used my little portable ironing board — it’s exactly the right size — and began by pinning the center two squares. I finished pinning on the outer edge. Then I steamed the heck out of it. These squares wouldn’t dare become misshapen now.
The remaining quilting is under serious consideration. What I can say is that it will be very different from the first sunflower scrap quilt. I want to use a variety of designs and sizes this time. Stay tuned.

I think I’ll have to try this too. Is the ‘white’ fabric’ commercial or hand printed?
Franki Kohler says
The ‘background’ fabric is a commercial print. The white to very light blue colors were perfect here.
Be careful with this Gurli — you could get hooked!

Love your idea for a series of related designs. This might inspire me to use up some of my batik scraps. I have several leaf scraps that would work well with this technique.

Wonderful! And I’d love to see your versions. Do share!

Great idea, Franki. It really is too late to do that kind of blocking when you have completed all the quilting.
Can’t wait to see the next phase.

Me too! This experimentation is such fun. And I think several of these hung together will look great.
