Last year a pair of Bewick’s Wrens found the nesting box and grew a family. This year a pair of Titmice found the box first. I spied them last week checking it out.
Hmmm . . . Looks okay from here but what about the inside?
Serious building started on the 9th. The dried maple leaves are first in — that should be a nice cushion.
Right now it’s easy to watch the progress. But the maple is budding out on the ends of the branches, pushing the dried leaves to the ground as the new leaves open. Soon that will begin to happen further down the branches, closer to the trunk, eventually concealing the nesting box behind the leaves.
I’m enjoying this while I can. And I’m quite simply thrilled to be supporting the local titmouse population.
