I took a little stroll in the back yard this past Sunday. Though most plants in my garden are saving their energy for the big spring party, there are a few show offs this time of year. My wall of climbing camellia is filling in nicely
If these big, frothy blossoms can’t put a smile on your face in January well . . . ‘nuf said.
While on tour I decided to clean out the nesting box. We were thrilled to have Bewick’s Wrens build a nest and raise a family last spring and we want them to know that they are most welcome this spring! It’s a cube: 3 1/4″ in every direction. All the building materials are from our yard save the interesting blue and white paper — a Hershey’s kiss opener!
The promise for spring: more rhubarb!
This little tour made me eager to get into the kitchen to turn the farm-fresh produce I had purchased at the farmer’s market into soup — yum! Harvested Saturday night, sold Sunday morning and on the table for dinner that night. Does it get any better?
Absolutely not.

I love the quiet beauty of winter also!

Farmer’s Market in Martinez is closed for ‘winter.’ Good to hear yours is still open. Wish we had one here that was more robust and closer to home.

The 2 markets near us are open year round! We’re spoiled.

OK, I’m writing in the comment box. Is this right? Answer fast, the short bus is leaving.
