Here are a few more of the one-inch felted wool circles in the Toned Downed Sampler. I am closing in on the end of the fourth row now. This circle has a border of alternating Italian Knotted Border Stitch and Colonial Knots. At first glance, the Italian Knotted stitch looks like a Fly Stitch. A closer inspection will show the knot at the junction of the “V”. A Scroll Stitch edges the circle; Trellis Stitch and Colonial Knots dominate the center. Click on an image for a larger view.
This next circle has just three stitches used: Fly Stitch, Colonial Knot Stitch, and Bullion Knot. I think it’s pretty charming.
And finally, this circle is surrounded with Rosette Chain Stitch and has a single leaf created with Backstitch, Closed Fly Stitch, Detached Chain Stitch and Colonial Knot Stitch.
Spring is in full riot here in Portland. The tree in the photo at top is just one of a cluster of trees completely loaded with white blossoms across the street from my building. I enjoy them every year.
Be strong. Be patient. Be kind.

love your tagline
be strong, be patient, be kind.

It’s a reminder for me each day, Toni. We are living through terribly stressful times. Those suggestions help to keep me better balanced, less inclined to speak before I think.

Once again, three perfect jewels! Oh, what a treasure you will have when it is complete. One of the challenges that I see, would be working around the completed circles without “scrunching” them. (Scrunching is an advanced embroidery term, right?)
It’s a joy to see each incremental step.
Franki Kohler says
I’ve had a couple friends ask about the scrunching thing, Jean. It doesn’t happen because I stitch slowly and pay very close attention to the tension of my thread. I make sure that the stitches are sitting nicely, not hanging on for dear life. Stitching this way makes the entire project a meditative experience — just what I need right now. I’m not in a hurry. I’m enjoying every step of the process.

Could you bring your Toned Down Sampler when you come so we could see it in person?
Franki Kohler says
That is my plan. I’ll also have Artichoke.
Christy says
I love the leaf circle. I can see it on lots of other places as a wonderful design element.
Franki Kohler says
Yes, a simple, effective design there.
