I am working on the Toned Down Sampler again and enjoying it quite a bit. More new stitches have appeared in these next few gems which means more challenges. And that translates into spending at least two evenings working on one one-inch circle. They are worth it though — don’t think I am complaining at all.
I’m into the 6th row (of 9 rows) of circles now. This circle is so cheerful. The outer edge of the circle is a Rosette Chain stitch. It took slow stitching and complete concentration to manage even stitch height and spacing. Not perfect here, but I think a good show. The center was stitched using Trellis stitch which creates a solid circle. That circle was then surrounded by Cast On Bullion stitch (in peach color) and finally Bullion Knot (in variegated purple) overlapped the Cast On Bullion stitch. Click on images for a larger view.
This one has another new stitch: surrounding the outer edge is Twisted Fly Stitch. The following 3 circles are Colonial Knot. The center is Drizzle Stitch. Looking down on the design, they look more like clumsy Colonial Knots — not so, these little guys are standing up tall and almost waving.
This circle shows off a single flower. It is composed — from top, down: Detached Chain Stitch within the same stitch, Woven Picot is the body of the flower, the stem is worked in Couch Stitch and the leaves are Detached Chain Stitch. I like the little open gap in the circle of Bullion Knot that surrounds the circle.
I took a break from embroidery for a couple evenings and just doodled on a junk-mail postcard. (If you are new here and don’t know what that’s about, type in the search box of the blog page ‘junk mail’ and you’ll find the origins of the concept where I created a book and more! I keep a file of junk mail that has a good weight of paper.) I like to work on these postcards and toss them into my stationery box. They come in quite handy.
I hope that you are enjoying your projects.
