Instead of the cat face design on Sue Spargo’s pattern, I chose a simple treatment using the Open Buttonhole Filler Stitch surrounded by Cast on Bullion Knot. The Buttonhole filler was very effectively used to create a basket for the second circle in the posting here. And I like it by itself filling the whole circle. It looks rather frilly so I thought the Cast on Bullion Knot (one of my favorite stitches) would be a nice complement.
This perky design uses the Closed Fly Stitch with couching. Back Stitch surrounds the circle and creates the stem of the Closed Fly Stitch. The top edge is stitched in Italian Knotted Border Stitch with Bullion Knots nested inside. Woven Picot grows to the left and right of the stem and Colonial Knots fill in the background.
And here is another interpretation using the Closed Fly Stitch. It’s fun to see how versatile that stitch is. The very bold Colonial Knots are stitched with #3 Perle Cotton. The circle above used #8 Perle Cotton for the Colonial Knots.
This one makes me smile. A simple grid center dotted with Colonial Knots is surrounded by Woven Picots in alternating colors. What’s not to like?
Stay tuned. I’m closing in on the finish of row three.
Be strong. Be patient. Be kind.
Such beautiful work. I love the colors.
I do too. They are very calming.
Each one is a jewel – a treasure! I look forward to each posting.

These are so cool Franki.
I’m glad you are enjoying them. They keep me on my toes.
I am really enjoying seeing this progress. I hope to see it in person this summer. John and I got our second jabs. We need a garden studio day together.
I can’t wait for our sunny outdoor days at your home! We have lots of show and tell to share with each other and new work to get going as well.
looks amazing, looking forward to seeing the whole piece. Love the colors and texture.
I like the colors too. Just enough brighter spots to keep things interesting. And great textures! I will probably share a couple interim photos so you can see some chunks of the work together. It will be a while before I’m done. I’ve just started the third row!
