I was away last week with friends for a needed change of scenery. As busy as I was kicking the sand and inspecting sand dollars, I did manage to stitch a few of the one-inch circles.
For some reason not clear to me, the next circle makes me think of a layer cake with lots of piped icing. Perhaps I’m just hungry for a nice wedge of something frosted. The Very Berry wool circle is outlined with Coral Stitch, another new stitch for me. The center stem down the middle is Palestrina Knot using a #3 Perle Cotton, the heftiest thread in my kit. Fly Stitch and Bullion Knot grow from the stem to create flowers.
I am straight back into thinking “Spring!” with the Spring Leaf-color circle next. I’m quite fond of the colors chosen for the design. Chain Stitch expands the base of the circle color a bit. Whipped Woven Stitch anchors the center design; Bullion Loop and Pistil Stitch alternate and fill in nicely.
Are you ready for some more cute? Well, you’ve got it with this darling ladybug. The head and body use the Open Buttonhole Filler Stitch; the body also has dots of Colonial Knot. Pistil Stitch completes the head; Couching supplies the legs; Backstitch closes the body edge (bottom).
I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling like I’m emerging from the longest winter in history. I am so appreciating all the signs of Spring in the Pacific Northwest. I’m certain that you are taking time to revel in the beauty of your area as well.
Until next time…
Be strong. Be patient. Be kind.

My pleasure, Gay. I am happy with the colors as well. Sue’s color choices are normally more saturated and bright — not my style. But this sampler is true to its word: toned down.
