We are all growing accustomed to seeking out entertainment and cultural experiences in the new virtual format. Museums, movie houses, music organizations and more, are doing their best to reach out and engage the public. Well, here’s another opportunity to view a stunning exhibit of art quilts:
Stitching California: Fiber Artists Interpret the State’s People, Life and Land opened in August 2019 at the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah, CA and was slated to travel through early 2023. Some of the scheduled venues have been able to share the exhibit with the public, but some have not. A virtual showing of the exhibit is available now through the Menlo Park Library here. Be ready to spend some time and be fully engaged because this exhibit is very interactive. It includes California-related music to listen to while you go through the exhibit, a brief interview with the SAQA President on what an art quilt is, coloring pages, downloadable instructions for a mixed media landscape and so much more. There is truly something here for the whole family.
Forty-two art quilts are exhibited by categories. You’ll find my Woodwardia Wonder in The Natural World category. Simply click on an image to see the full art quilt and the artist’s statement.
Don’t put this off. Viewing will end on February 15th. Enjoy!
Be strong. Be patient. Be kind.

That’s right! I remember our visit. I think that this virtual exhibit could be a template for even after we’re all back to live visits! Think of how many more folks could see our work who cannot attend the live exhibit!

I agree, Franki! I loved the virtual exhibit. What a variety of incredible pieces of work by so many talented artists. So happy you shared this and I was able to see it. The music and interactive features were a perfect addition.

It seems to me they thought of every detail for a family viewing. Pretty incredible work. I hope we see more venues doing this in the future.
