It’s the first day of 2013 and I am looking forward. A review of 2012 was done on a monthly, if not weekly basis, with the words simplicity and focus as yardsticks. I need to keep a tight rein on my actions to avoid the R word — regret — which usually leads to another R word, Resolution. Rrrrr-r-r-r-r — it feels negative. I prefer to set goals, define simple steps for achieving them and keep my focus on the goal.
If there was just one word to guide 2013, mine would be habit. Early last year I framed a greeting card my friend Susan made and hung it in my studio. It features this quote:
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. — Aristotle
So, here’s to making excellence a habit.
Happy new year!
